Today, this fine New Years' Day, I will be with you again. I just had to put in a U2 reference. But I digress. I am actually going to be reviewing 2003's adventure-comedy Finding Nemo, as part of my Pixar review series. I hope you enjoy!
This movie tells of Nemo (voiced by Alexander Gould), a young clownfish who gets lost at school (tacky fish pun, amirite). Nemo gets taken by Aussie divers, and his father Marlin (voiced by Albert Brooks) goes on a legendary adventure, alongside bluefish Dory (voiced by Ellen DeGeneres), in order to find Nemo, hence the title.
This film is another one I used to own on VHS. It was in the same box as the Toy Story 2 tape.
After watching this film, I just have to say that the animation here is some of the best I've ever seen from early 2000s Pixar, and with good reasoning. The underwater lighting and the way some of the underwater vegetation and creatures move is extremely realistic! Even the drop of Dory's blood in the shark scene was really well animated, since it looked like streaks of red floating in the water, like how blood in water looks in real life. The music is excellent, and was, as always, done by Pixar's go-to, Randy Newman, the nephew of Alfred Newman, who was the composer of the iconic 20th Century Fox fanfare.
The characters are awesome, the story is excellent, and I'd give this movie 5 starfish.
Again, Happy New Year from The Chronicles of Trevor!
