This blog post will cover 1984's The Adventures of Andre & Wally B. (TV-G).This short film was produced when Pixar was known as the Lucasfilm Computer Graphics Division. After Pixar became a seperate company, Lucasfilm moved their former computer animation staff to Industrial Light and Magic (ILM), the people who brought you those neat special effects in Star Wars, as well as the animation for the 2023 Walt Disney Pictures logo.
But I digress. TAOA&WB was actually really good! The animation, while primitive by today's standards, is really good for 1984 standards. The story involves a humanoid character named Andre, who for some reason has the voice of Donald Duck. Is this some foreshadowing to the current state of Lucasfilm and Pixar? Of course not! It was likely a coincidence, since Donald Duck's voice clips were often put in sound library discs from companies like Sound Ideas. But I digress. Andre is sleeping under a tree at sunset, when suddenly, a bee named Wally B. approaches him. The tired Andre waked up and sees Wally's face right up at his, Andre proceeds to run away, but gets stung after Wally chases him.
After getting stung, Andre (offscreen) attacks Wally (onscreen) back with his hat, and lets out a laugh.
It's kinda like Tom & Jerry in a way, but animated with Computers. The computers they used were from Cray Technologies and Massachusetts-based Digital Electronics Corporation. This was before the famous Pixar Image Computer was created.
Overall. I give this short a 9.5/10!
