What Really Grinds My Gears: TikTok Part II

A stylized clock with 2 T's as hands. Text is shown under the symbol "TikTok"

My take on a TikTok logo redesign. I thought, "Its name is TikTok, so why not use a clock motif?" I used Sofia Pro, the brand font prior to this year.

Welcome back to The Chronicles of Trevor, the blog that 10 out of 10 people agree sparks good!

This is Part 2 of my first "What Really Grinds My Gears" post. Sure it's also kinda late, but I did this because of the endless TikTok commercials I've been seeing on cable networks. One featuring a woman who runs a soap business, and another, whose husband is a veteran. They're running these ads on these networks since the Montana ban is set to go into effect next year. TikTok has stated that the ban "ViOlAtES THe FiRSt AmEnDMeNt", when there are other alternatives, such as YouTube Shorts, and Meta's Reels platforms (on both Instagram and Facebook). These are apps that are in EVERYONE'S pockets. so I don't sense any violations there.

These ads state that "TikTok sparks good", but, to paraphrase the legendary "Tidiness Teacher" herself, Marie Kondo, it does not spark good. If the ads were true, it would say "TikTok Sparks Headaches, Cringiness, and Toxicity".

Also, in the veteran one, the American Flag is seen reversely hung on their door. Total CCP subliminal messaging, I guess.

Also, I think these networks just enjoy that sweet, sweet CCP money from Winnie The Pooh. [this blog is now banned in China, sorry] I'm not a sinophobe, I just hate the country's communist side. I like seeing Chinese people migrate out to avoid the constant dystopia of their country. That's why cities like Boston have dedicated areas highlighting their great Asian population, making them feel like they belong.

But the CCP has crept into Boston, in terms of the Radio market. Longtime urban contemporary daytimer (meaning per FCC rules, they must sign off at sunset) radio station 1090 WILD-AM, in 2011, aired the programming of China Radio International, a state-owned radio network, as part of a leased-time agreement, which caused the station to become a full time affiliate of CRI. This caused controversy amongst Chinese immigrants in Boston, and lifelong WILD listeners, since CRI is known to air propaganda programming. It went silent in 2019, probably due to complaints, and the daytime-only rule. 2 days before Halloween 2020, WILD was sold to Blount Communications, who changed it to a Christian format dubbed "Life Changing Radio"

But I digress. TikTok is one of the most TOXIC apps out there, and I feel like moving to Montana since they're banning it, even though I would miss my friends here. 1 down, 49 to go!

Ban TikTok. Save your friends and family.
